2005 Morehead City Charter Fishing Reports

September 08

Well it was good to be on the water again it looks like we dodged a bullet from Hurricane Hanna last week & things are shaping up for the fantastic Fall fishing Morehead City is known for. Mahi - Mahi are back in good numbers once again from Gaffers to Bailer size fish along with the Fall Wahoo bite. We picked at the Gaffers off & on yesterday & even stopped to do some bailing with the smaller ones on the spinning rods. We could have easily caught a limit of Dolphin but Wahoo & Sailfish was the target species. First thing as we set lines out we caught a couple of Dolphin & moved on out a little deeper then we had a  Wahoo bite so I started circling a good bait mark & the fun began.
The next bite was a Sailfish that was doing everything he could to get in the boat with us I heard a couple of clicks from my left Teaser & he was eating it up.  I said Sail Fish left teaser we dropped a bait back & tried to get him off of it but he was determined to eat it he followed it past the stern of the boat under the Rigger once the pitch bait had his attention it was on he piled on it at the back of the boat. He put on a fantastic show for the crowd to see & it was the anglers first Billfish ever. Once everybody done the high fives we were back at it again with a couple more Wahoo bites we even had a Triple on at one time but we only managed to give two of them a free boat ride to Morehead. We had another shot or three at the Sails we did manage to get another release & then a weed line moved in on us & then it was Mahis if you wanted them or not. We got attacked by the Bailers which was fun for a while but then we moved on trying to catch another Wahoo. I came across some big grass patches later which was loaded up with Mahis from Bailers to Gaffers. I am glad to see the Fall fishing starting to take off again next thing you know it will be Bluefin Tuna time. We still have a few weekend days open so come on down & join in on the fun!

August 2008

Finally a good offshore report to give! Fishing has been much better with the recent North winds we have had the past few days. Friday we fished about 30 miles out of the inlet first rod out was the Planer Rod Ryan was just about to fasten the last clip on it & WHAM a big Wahoo nails it & the line
starts peeling off & I see my Ole Salty go flying through the air & then the rod just went slack after he made about 10 cranks on the handle. I thought
to myself this is going to be another one of those days. He put the rest of the spread out & after about 10 minutes 4 lines came down at once I thought
to myself I have not seen this in a while must be False Albacore & then the Mahis were doing there dance behind the boat so we started circling & ended
up with around 30 of them before it was all over. Started working my way back inshore I see a Sailfish on the left short rigger he popped it out of
the pen & that was it then he hammered the long but we did not manage to hold on to him. Saturday we headed to the Blue Water looking for the
illusive Wahoo & Marlin. The Wahoo fishing was not working out to well so to the deep I headed in search of the big bite. I stayed about an hour & moved
back inshore a little & started marking loads of bait I knew if a Hoo was around this is were he should be.  I thought it may be a later bite because
of the full moon & sure enough after sticking it out circling the bait marks around 11:00 the ole faithful Planer comes tight with a big fat Wahoo on the
other end of it. We managed a steady bite until we decided to call it a day catching several very nice Wahoos. I guess the best part of it all was most
of the bites came on the top baits because there is nothing like seeing a hoo come blistering a flat line or a short rigger! We have also been lucky
enough to fish several inshore trips the last several days which yielded all the Spanish anyone could want along with several Kings mixed in. I have
enjoyed the 1/2 days the most this year because my son Hunter has been riding along helping  Ryan sling Macks he has seen more this summer than
most grown men will see in a lifetime & he has had the most fun while doing it & even had a few nice tips. I will start to offer some more make up trips
soon if the fishing continues to improve. Also if you want to be on the mailing list when I do offer make ups please send me an e-mail & label it
make up & I will keep you informed when the next ones will be

June 2008

Well it has been a wild June so far we have been extremely busy between charter fishing & fishing the Big Rock tournament. I must say fishing has been pretty good I feel blessed to be able to fish as many days as we have. The first part of June it was big Gaffer fishing at its finest with a Blue Marlin thrown in here & there just to spice things up a bit. The fish has been moving around quite a bit in my opinion never catching them in the same place twice which makes it a little more challenging. The big gaffers would be in 70 Fathoms one day then an edge would shove in overnight & would be in 16 Fathoms the next day. We have also caught a few citation Wahoo this month. Most of the Hoos has been in the 20 pound + range. The Big Rock tournament was not as good for me as it was for others. After the first day the bar had been set we knew it would take a 650 pound fish to win it so we fished the big stuff all week. We did pull one nice fish off Tuesday around 400 pounds but even if we had caught her there would have been no need to kill her. After the Big Rock we kinda picked up were we left off with the meat fishing with the exception of the Gaffers there seems to be more fish now but the smaller class of them with a few nice Gaffers mixed in every day along with the Wahoo. Finally things are starting to heat up nearshore & along the beach with a few Dolphin on the nearshore rocks along with the King Mackerel & PLENTY of Spanish Mackerel just on the beach which
is perfect for the 1/2 day trips for the kids. Things are starting to slow up a bit so I will try to keep a current report up again.

May 2008

It is early May but the Spring fishing has been pretty good so far. Not sure what happened to the Yellowfin Tuna but the Mahi & Wahoo fishing has taken
up the slack for the Tuna. Yellowfins have been pretty scarce this Spring so far but who knows they may be thick tomorrow. Wahoos have been caught on the Fight-N-Lady up to 55 pounds this Spring & Mahis up to 50 pounds along with quite a few Giggers & Gaffers. The Billfish bite is also shaping up to be good this year with several already been released by the fleet. We still have plenty of days open so come on down & enjoy the fun. If you are in the
area we are normally in between 4:15 & 4:30 so come on by & see us unload our catch for the day.

April 2008
Morehead City Charter Fishing

Well the wind has finally gave us a small break this month to get in some fishing. We missed just about everyday in March due to weather. We have been waiting all winter for the spring fishing well guess what it is HERE! Nice catches of Wahoo, Yellowfin Tuna, Blackfin Tuna, King Mackerel & even a few Mahi have started to show up. Some of the Wahoo have been 50+ pounds & some of the Tunas have been 70 pounds. We still have several weekdays open & a few scattered weekend days throughout the summer. Do not get left sitting at the dock wishing you were fishing!

Febuary 2008
Morehead City Charter Fishing

Well after a long few weeks in the Boat Yard waxing, painting & scrubbing we finally go to go fishing. It looks like the Spring Fishing has arrived a
little early. We made our first trip with a few surprises mixed in. The main target was Yellowfin Tuna which we were successful with not to mention we pulled off a Blue Marlin caught a Mahi & some Wahoo. There is nothing like catching a mixed bag like this in FEBRUARY only in Carolina. Things should continue to keep heating up through March. We still have a few weekend dates open along with weekdays so now is your chance. Also I have a new mate this year Capt. Ryan Strickland is in the pit on the Fight N Lady all I got to say is I pity the fish this season! I tried to break him in right today we were pulling 9 lines had a triple header Yellowfin bite in a sloppy NE wind & he managed to give all 3 of them a free boat ride back to Morehead City.
